The Chicago Fire are in the midst of an unexpected push for a place in the 2025 MLS Cup Playoffs, as they lead 1-0 at halftime against visiting St. Louis City.

Able to end the night in 8th if the result holds, the Fire will have shown massive improvement over their 2024 campaign, with Belgian hit man Hugo Cuypers continuing to be a key catalyst in the Windy City.

Since arriving from Belgian giants KAA Gent before the beginning of the season, Cuypers has shone under Gregg Berhalter, now sitting on 15 goals in his debut season after pouncing for the opener this evening.

With that, the Liège-born forward becomes just the fourth Fire player to ever score at least 15 goals in a single season, and the first since former striker Nemanja Nikolić.

Still among the race for the Golden Boot, Cuypers could be just the tonic the Fire need to re-establish themselves as a force to be reckoned with in the East.
