The Boston Red Sox are expected to get Alex Bregman back sometime before the All-Star break, possibly giving the team an excellent opportunity to improve during the most critical part of the year.

For the Red Sox to make the postseason, they need to have a decent stretch in the second half, and Bregman being back would help that.

Unfortunately, he's been out for a few months now, which is a very concerning sign for him and the Red Sox for multiple reasons.

Not only is Bregman a very good player, but he signed a deal with opt-outs after the season, allowing him to hit the free agency market after not having a big market last winter.

From his perspective, he was looking to get paid handsomely in the 2025-2026 winter.

It's possible that he still will, but it remains to be seen what the Red Sox and other teams plan to do.

Regardless, when he returns, whether in July or right after the All-Star break, it'll likely impact multiple players on the roster, including Marcelo Mayer.

According to CBS Sports, when Bregman returns, Mayer will likely switch over to second base.

“Boston could certainly use Bregman's bat back in the lineup, as scoring runs has been an up-and-down endeavor since the Red Sox traded Rafael Devers on June 15. A Bregman return would likely shift rookie Marcelo Mayer to second base and David Hamilton to a bench role or back to the minors,” they wrote.

It's unfortunate that the youngster hasn't been able to play his full-time position at shortstop, but that's nothing he can control because of Trevor Story.

Ultimately, as long as he's on the field, that's a positive for the Red Sox, as he needs at-bats.
