How about those Angels?
Angels Complete Extremely Rare Feat Seen For First Time in Mike Trout Era originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Los Angeles Angels appear to have the Los Angeles Dodgers' number. On Tuesday night, the Angels moved a win away from sweeping Shohei Ohtani and company for the second time in the 2025 MLB season.
The Halos, who swept the Dodgers at Dodger Stadium back in May, defeated the reigning World Series champions on Monday, 7-4, before outlasting them again on Tuesday, 7-6.
The Halos have become a big thorn in the side of the Dodgers in 2025. In fact, the Angels have done something at the expense of the Dodgers that had not been seen before since Mike Trout made his big league debut in 2011.
Following the Angels' thrilling victory on Tuesday, they have finally scored five wins at the expense of the Dodgers in the same season since 2010, according to a post on X by Talkin' Baseball.
The Angels had to sweat out their latest win, though. With the score tied at 5-5 in the top of the ninth inning, Ohtani put the Dodgers in front with a solo blast that went 404 feet deep. The Angels managed to force extra innings with a run scored in the bottom of the ninth frame. In the 10th inning, Jo Adell sent every Angels fan at Angel Stadium home with smiles on their faces after ripping a walkoff single that drove Taylor Ward home for the winning run.
Connor Brogdon got the pitching win for the Angels, as he blanked the Dodgers in the top of the 10th inning, while Ben Casparius was left picking up the pitching loss for the visiting team.
Can the Angels make the 2025 MLB playoffs?
Despite dominating the Dodgers, the Angels still have plenty of work to do if they are to join the fray in the playoffs. Their 58-62 record is only good enough for fourth in the American League West standings. They are nine games behind the division-leading Seattle Mariners and six games outside of the current wild-card picture in the AL.
Through Tuesday, the Angels only have a 1.0 percent chance to clinch a spot in the postseason, according to FanGraphs.
Sweeping the Dodgers for the second time this season would still be a sweet accomplishment for the Angels, and that’s what they will aim to do when they give the ball to Kyle Hendricks in the series finale this Wednesday.
