New York could soon add another star.
The New York Knicks have made some moves this offseason, but there might still be room for one more splash.
Over the past week and change, NBA free agency has dominated storylines across the league. From big signings to unexpected trades and everything in between, this offseason has had some shining moments.
While some big names have already changed teams, there are some other stars still looking for their next home. Among those stars is former MVP Russell Westbrook.
Westbrook is fresh off one season with the Denver Nuggets, where he helped them nearly knock off the eventual champion Oklahoma City Thunder. After Westbrook declined his player option, he entered unrestricted free agency, but his next destination is still up in the air.
In a recent Bleacher Report article ranking the top free agents still available, Eric Pincus put Westbrook at No. 7 and mentioned the Knicks as a potential landing spot. Pincus wrote that the Knicks could still use an additional point guard, so they could be a natural fit for Westbrook.
Of course, there is still some speculation that Westbrook will end up back in Denver, but for now, there is clearly some traction for the nine-time All-Star to head to New York. The Knicks previously had interest in Westbrook before signing Jordan Clarkson, but considering the skillsets of Westbrook and Clarkson, they could co-exist and give Mike Brown different backcourt styles off the bench.
Last season, Westbrook averaged 13.3 points, 4.9 rebounds and 6.1 assists. If the Knicks could add a guy who can produce like that off the bench, it might be all they need to get over the hump and get one step closer to an NBA title.
