Michigan Wolverines football will find out its fate from the NCAA in terms of punishment for its sign-stealing case. The official findings will drop at noon Eastern, but ESPN’s insiders Pete Thamel and Dan Wetzel have given a glimpse into the punishments.

Thamel tweeted on Friday morning:

*Michigan receives a significant fine, expected to be more than $20 million, from loss of postseason football revenue for the next two seasons.
*Michigan coach Sherrone Moore is given an additional game suspension, which is expected take place in 2026. The school already proposed a self-imposed a two-game ban for this upcoming season, which is slated for Week 3 and 4.

The fine is expected to be the biggest ever levied in an NCAA case. Tennessee paid out $8 million in 2023 for its battle with the NCAA. As far as the suspension goes, it appears the NCAA will accept Michigan’s self-imposed two-game suspension, set for this year in games against Central Michigan (Sept. 13) and at Nebraska (Sept. 20). It is unclear when he would serve the third game in 2026, especially with news that the season opener vs. Western Michigan is likely moving to Frankfurt, Germany in Week 0.

“The real news that’s going to come out of tomorrow is going to be regarding the suspension of Sherrone Moore,” Thamel said Thursday on the Pat McAfee Show. ” … What we’re going to find out from the NCAA tomorrow is that accepted or if they’re going to add any additional suspensions. Remember, he obviously deleted a thread of 52 text messages (from Stalions) in this.”

Punishments for Connor Stalions and former Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh were not reported in Thamel and Wetzel’s pre-NCAA release leak. However, they are also expected to receive big punishments from the NCAA.

Moore was asked this week about the pending NCAA case, saying that he was instead worried about Michigan’s fall camp, which wraps next week ahead of the Aug. 30 opener against New Mexico, where he is expected to coach.

“Today, not tomorrow,” Moore said. “That’s all I’m worried about. I’m worried about our players right now. The man upstairs has blessed me with the ability to be here, so I’m just worried about today. That’s it.”

The NCAA will release its findings at noon on Friday, followed by a 1 p.m. conference call with the media going over the report.
