The Atlanta Hawks still haven't offered Trae Young a contract extension. The star point guard is eligible to sign a four-year, $229 million deal with the Hawks. Despite Young being the franchise star, Atlanta hasn't made a move to keep him happy.

According to a report from Jake Fischer of "The Stein Line," Young is disappointed with the lack of movement from the Hawks.

“The reported disappointment Young is said to be feeling about his contract status appears to stem largely from the fact that the Hawks never really broached an extension at all,” Fischer wrote.

The Hawks have prioritized adding new players around the point guard in hopes of making the roster competitive again.

The Hawks Want to See How the New Roster Performs Before Committing, According to an NBA Insider

On Monday, ESPN's Bobby Marks gave his prediction as to why the Hawks have been hesitant to give Young a new deal. According to Marks, he believes Atlanta wants to see if the new team will be competitive before committing to a long-term contract with the four-time All-Star.

"Although it looks good on paper, we don't know how good this Atlanta team potentially could be when you look at it. I think, if you're willing to commit long-term, what does this roster exactly look like? I think you want a better feel," Marks said.

"I think this is going to be a slow play as far as where both sides are going to go. I do think there's a middle ground, as far as reaching that commitment here. But I do think from Atlanta's perspective, you're thinking, 'Wait a minute. Let's see how this roster fits before we're willing to commit long-term to Trae Young'."

The Hawks have missed the postseason for the past two years. This is why the front office wants to build a competitive team for the 2025-26 season to help Young. Since free agency started, Atlanta added Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Luke Kennard and Kristaps Porzingis.

Young could have one of the best years of his career next season. The Hawks have added more scoring punch, which will be beneficial with his pass-first strategy on the floor.
