The Indiana Fever have called in reinforcements amid the squad’s full-blown injury crisis. With Caitlin Clark still without a timetable to return from a lingering groin injury, the Fever have been left without a healthy true point guard following season-ending injuries to both Aari McDonald and Sydney Colson.

The front office decided to address this dire situation by bringing in veteran point guard Odyssey Sims, who was released by the Los Angeles Sparks earlier this season after 12 games. The 33-year-old joins the Fever on a seven-day hardship contract and is expected to make her debut on Tuesday against the Dallas Wings.

Fever coach Stephanie White spoke to reporters during practice on Monday. When asked about the team’s new recruit, the veteran shot-caller had nothing but good things to say about Sims.

"I think her efficiency in the two-man game," White said, on what she’s most excited to see from Sims. "She's been really good in the two-man her whole career. Her ability to get downhill and to make plays for herself and others, to knock down shots, her speed and quickness with the ball in her hands.

“All things that we need, and she'll be a great addition."

White also talked about how injuries have been an issue for the Fever for the majority of the season and how they’ve gotten used to bringing in new faces to the squad at this point.

"Our group is really good about how we help one another out and how they help one another out on the floor,” she said. “So, she's ready to go."

The Fever will have an option to sign Sims to another seven-day hardship contract once her first one comes to an end. Per WNBA rules, a player can sign up to three hardship deals with the same team in one season, which means that if and when that time comes, the Fever will need to decide if they will waive Sims’ services or sign her to a rest-of-season contract.

Sims will need to prove her worth in the coming days, and Tuesday’s game against the Wings is her first opportunity to do so.
