Manchester United midfielder Toby Collyer has picked his next club amid interest from a slew of Championship sides.

United are trying to shake up their midfield ahead of the new season, with Ruben Amorim yet to settle on his preferred double pivot.

Following the signings of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, Bruno Fernandes is set to drop deeper. However, question marks remain over his ideal partner.

Manchester United want to sign a new midfielder

In his maiden season, Amorim used a number of midfielders to shield his backline, including Collyer. Initially, the 21-year-old impressed under the Portuguese, who often picked him over Casemiro. However, fitness issues eventually pushed him down the pecking order.

Signed from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2022, the Englishman is highly rated at the club, having earned plaudits from both Erik ten Hag and Amorim.

United want to add a new midfielder to their ranks, tailor-made for Amorim’s setup. In that regard, Carlos Baleba has emerged as the club’s dream target for midfield.

As such, a loan spell away from Old Trafford is considered the best option for Collyer.

Collyer set to join West Brom

According to The Athletic, the Englishman is in advanced talks to sign for West Bromwich Albion on a season-long loan.

A host of Champions clubs, including Hull City have shown interest in the midfielder, but West Brom “appear to have won the race, with the structure of the deal agreed.”

The report further states: “The West Midlands club believe the 21-year-old can aid their push for promotion to the Premier League under head coach Ryan Mason.”

Corroborating the claims, Fabrizio Romano reveals Collyer is “on the verge” of leaving Old Trafford this summer. “The agreement is imminent,” added the Italian journalist.

It is understood Collyer’s loan deal will not include any buy option clause, as the youngster is “trusted” for the future at United.
