Evangel Christian’s Damari “DaeDae” Drake announces where he’ll play collegiately

Damari Drake is a big hitter from his linebacker position, and he knows where he'd like to play collegiately.

For Evangel Christian’s Damari “DaeDae” Drake, the decision of where to use his talents in college was simple.

The Shreveport Times All-City first-team linebacker has elected to go 60 miles down I-20 to play for Grambling State University.

“I made my decision to commit to Grambling because they were the only school that kept in contact, showing more interest than the other two schools,” Drake said. “I also have a better chance on starting as a freshman. If I spend one to two years there getting playing time and making plays, I can transfer.”

The 6-foot, 210-pound Drake is one of the hardest hitters in the state. In 2024, he compiled 150 tackles, including 102 solos. He had 12 tackles for a loss, four sacks, three pass deflections and an interception with four QB hurries.

Drake said Grambling plans to use him everywhere his talents fit, which includes both sides of the ball. His favorite spot is on the defensive side, however.

“Linebacker. I feel quicker, faster and I get to lay the wood,” he said.

Evangel coach Denny Duron knows Drake will be key to his team’s success when the 2025 season kicks off Sept. 5 at Neville.

“Rawest linebacker I have ever coached with great instinctive ability,” Duron said.

Drake is a three-star recruit listed as the No. 35 senior in Louisiana by 247Sports. He has also been offered by Miami and Arkansas State.
