The Rockies look to break their 8-game losing streak tonight
After falling to St. Louis 2-1 on Monday night, the Rockies will try to notch elusive win 31 on Tuesday. The Rockies (30-88) have now lost eight games in a row five times, including the current slide, which started on Aug. 3 against Pittsburgh.
Having won the three-game series at Coors Field earlier this season, the Rockies have now tied the season series with the Cardinals (61-59) at 2-2 with two games in St. Louis remaining.
Kyle Freeland (2-12, 5.53 ERA) will start for the Rockies. Freeland will be making his 22nd start of the season, and he’s coming off two rough starts. The first came on July 30 when Freeland started despite not feeling very well. In a gritty performance, he lasted three innings, only giving up two runs in the loss. On Aug. 6 against the Blue Jays, Freeland was hit hard and struggled with his command. He gave up six runs on seven hits with two walks, two hit batters and four strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings.
Matthew Liberatore (6-9, 3.98 ERA) will get the start for St. Louis. The 25-year-old LHP is in his fourth year in the Big Leagues and first as a starter only. In 21 starts this season, he’s struck out 85 batters and walked 27 in 113 innings. Liberatore hasn’t earned a win since June 29, which is also the last time he made it past the fifth inning in a game.
The weather has been very rainy in St. Louis today, and the field at Busch Stadium might be pretty soggy. Spilly has been posting about the wet conditions, but things appear to be looking brighter and drier:
