Through a post on his Instagram account, former Bruins forward Tyler Johnson officially announced his retirement from the NHL.

Johnson, 34, spent the final portion of his NHL career with the Bruins during the 2024-25 season. In nine games with the Original Six club, he recorded two assists, 10 penalty minutes, and a minus-1 rating.

Johnson's time with the Bruins ended last December when he and the team mutually agreed to terminate his contract. From there, Johnson became an unrestricted free agent (UFA) and did not sign with another club.

While Johnson's time with the Bruins was brief, there is no question that the Washington native had a strong NHL career. In 747 career NHL games split between the Tampa Bay Lightning, Chicago Blackhawks, and Bruins, he posted 193 goals, 240 assists, 433 points, and a plus-19 rating. He also won the Stanley Cup twice as a member of the Lightning and was an All-Star in 2014-15.
