Deion Sanders Makes Major Decision Amid Health Concerns

Deion Sanders makes Big 12 Media Days decision.

With college football programs around the country preparing for their opening games, Colorado head coach Deion Sanders has been focusing on a different kind of preparation.

The third-year head coach, who led Colorado to a 9-4 record this past season and an Alamo Bowl, has been uncharacteristically quiet throughout the offseason, but for good reason.

While the matter hasn't been publicly elaborated on since his appearance on Asante Samuel's podcast a month ago, Sanders told the fellow former NFL corner that the health issue he has been recovering from led to him losing 14 pounds. It has also prevented Sanders from returning to Boulder, as he has been spending his time at his home in Canton, Texas.

With Big 12 Media Days taking place this week, questions arose regarding whether Sanders would make an appearance. However, according to Brian Howell of BuffZone, Sanders will be making the commute to Frisco.

"I did talk to somebody this week that said, 'Hey, Coach Prime will be there,'" Howell said. "It sounds like his health is getting better and things are going well. I was told he will be there. He is the last guy to go (speak), and it's only about an hour and a half from the house, so you would think he can make that."

This will be Sanders' second media day appearance in three years in Boulder, as he was unable to attend the Pac-12 Media Days in 2023 after a blood clot-related surgery in his leg.

Sanders will be joined by offensive tackle Jordan Seaton, corner DJ McKinney, kicker Alejandro Mata and the team's two quarterbacks, Julian Lewis and Kaidon Salter.

As for this upcoming football season, Colorado opens the year on Friday, Aug. 29, against Georgia Tech in a game set to air on ESPN.
