Key Celtics figure might be in a Warriors uniform before he retires.
Former Celtics player could suit up for the Warriors amid retirement rumors originally appeared on The Sporting News
Long-time Boston Celtics player Al Horford could be suiting up for the Golden State Warriors before he retires. After four seasons playing for the Celtics in his second stint, Horford entered free agency. The veteran big man has played an important role for Boston as he helped them win their 18th franchise title in 2024. However, now being 39 years old, Horford is already considering retirement.
After playing 18 seasons in the NBA, Horford has suited up for four different teams. His most prominent stints were with the Atlanta Hawks and Boston Celtics. Throughout his tenure in the league, he notched five All-Star appearances and one NBA title win. Having that in mind, there's nothing else Horford has to do to cement his legacy on the hardwood.
Although the Golden State Warriors seem to have other ideas in mind. Al Horford hasn't officially announced his retirement yet, which means he's still available in the free agency market. It appears that the Warriors are finally set on acquiring a big man that could help them win, and Horford looks to be their target center.
According to multiple sources, the Warriors are already operating as if Horford is already a part of their roster despite retirement rumors. While there have not been any official announcements from both parties regarding the big man's connection with Golden State, this could be a hint that Horford is planning to suit up for Dub Nation next season.
"Retirement remains on the table," ESPN reported. "Though the Warriors appear to be operating as if he is a firm part of their plan next season."
Looking at Al Horford's numbers last season, he's still a valuable big man at his age. He played 60 regular-season games and averaged 9.0 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists. Those numbers can add value to the Warriors, especially now that they have a new tandem between Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler. For now, all we can do is wait and see if a partnership between Horford and the Warriors will unfold.
