As the college football season gets closer, Steve Spurrier is diving into schedules across the country. When talking about Another Dooley Noted Podcast, a recent list from CBS Sports was brought up — one that ranked the easiest schedules. Spurrier quickly asked if the Missouri Tigers took the top overall spot.
“Had to be Missouri first, was it?” Spurrier asked.
The answer is no, with the honors going to the Virginia Cavaliers. However, Missouri does find itself at the top of those kinds of rankings when going up against SEC teams. Back in July, the Sporting News had the Tigers as the easiest in the conference. Games against nonconfernece opponents were included in there too.
Missouri has eight home games during the 2025 season, six of which are to open the year. Kansas heads to Columbia to renew a bitter rivalry between the two programs. A lot of emphasis will be put on beating the Jayhawks, even if Lance Leipold‘s team is not the toughest Mizzou will face.
Oct. 18 is the first road game, heading down to the Plains for another big matchup against the Auburn Tigers. With a front-loaded home slate, four of the last five contests will be away from Faurot Field, including rivalry games against Oklahoma in Norman and Arkansas in Fayetteville. Maybe not as important from a fan perspective as beating KU but two Missouri certainly wants to win.
Ten SEC teams were ranked inside the preseason AP poll. Missouri will only play two of them — Alabama and South Carolina, both of which fall at home. The only chance to play one of the other eight would be in the SEC Championship or College Football Playoff.
How Missouri turns out will wind up being one of the more interesting storylines of the year. Media members are not too high, predicting the Tigers to finish 11th in the SEC Preseason Media Poll. Quite a contrast from the 9-3 campaign last year before bumping the win total up to 10 due to a Music City Bowl win against Iowa.
The journey will begin on Aug. 28, getting the year started on a Thursday night. Central Arkansas is first up on the schedule, getting a soft landing into 2025. The competition will ramp up from there but in Spurrier’s opinion, not by much. He thinks the easiest 12-game slate in all of college football can call Columbia home.
