The 2024-25 school year has concluded, but voting for the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center high school Athlete of the Week continues through the summer.

This week, Dispatch.com readers get to decide your choice for central Ohio girls Athlete of the Year.

Fairfield Union graduate Christian Thompson earned the honor during the Central Ohio Sports Awards on June 18 at Upper Arlington High School, but who would you choose? Vote in our poll below.

Voting is open until 4 p.m. July 11. Please do not email your votes; they will not count.

OSU Wexner Medical Center Athlete of the Week

The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center high school Athlete of the Week voting occurs each week and recognizes athletes across all sports.

Here are the candidates:

Amiya Bowles, Bexley: The junior tennis star produced her third straight undefeated season, going 16-0 in the fall and winning her third Division II state championship in a row. Bowles dropped her first set in high school play in a state semifinal but rebounded to sweep to victory in the state final. A five-star recruit who is ranked 27th nationally by TennisRecruiting.com, Bowles is 56-0 in high school and is seeking to become just the second four-time champion in Ohio history.

Brooke Chapman, Olentangy Orange: The junior repeated as champion in the 1,600-meters at the Division I state track and field meet after winning district and regional titles in the event. In the fall, she was Division I state cross-country runner-up to cap a postseason that also included district and regional championships. Chapman finished 13th in the Foot Locker National Cross Country Championships in December.

Carrie Furbee, Grandview Heights: The Ohio State swimming signee won the last of her five Division II state championships, setting a state record of 53.36 in the 100 butterfly. Furbee won state in the 50 and 100 freestyle as a sophomore and junior and swept district in those events each of her first three high school seasons.

Hayden Hollingsworth, Upper Arlington: The senior won her third consecutive Division I 50 free championship, was state runner-up in the 100 fly and anchored the first-place 200 free relay as UA won its third straight team championship. Hollingsworth, who has signed with Georgia, also was on the first-place 200 medley relay.

Lilly LaRosa, Hilliard Davidson: The junior put the finishing touches on the Wildcats track and field team’s first state championship, anchoring the winning 1,600 relay to give Davidson a five-point win over Pickerington Central. LaRosa paced Davidson to a regional victory, taking first in the 100 and 400 and anchoring the first-place 1,600 relay as well as placing second in the 200. She did not qualify for state as a freshman or sophomore.

Ashlin Mowery, Lancaster: The senior pitcher led the Golden Gales’ softball team to its first Division I regional championship, recording 223 strikeouts in 117 innings with an ERA of 0.71 as a pitcher and batting .514 with 54 hits, nine home runs and 46 RBIs. Mowery was district Player of the Year and earned first-team all-state.

Madeline Pohmer, Olentangy Liberty: The senior All-American played a crucial role in the Patriots lacrosse team winning its second straight Division I state championship, scoring 100 goals with 31 assists, 134 draw controls and 88 caused turnovers. Pohmer, who has signed with Cornell, came up with a crucial caused turnover in the second overtime of the state final to lead to the winning goals. She was named Region 1 Player of the Year, first-team all-state.

Christian Thompson, Fairfield Union: A three-sport star for the Falcons, Thompson was Division II state champion in the high jump in just her second year of track and field and also guided the basketball team to a 27-0 start and its first state tournament in 26 years. Thompson was first-team all-state in both basketball and volleyball, the sport she was to play at Ohio University before deciding to sign with Ohio State in track. Thompson was state runner-up in the high jump as a junior.
