Deion Sanders addressed the ongoing quarterback battle between Kaidon Salter and freshman Julian Lewis at Colorado. Simply put, there’s no end to it anytime soon.

Of course, there will be a winner for QB1 at some point, but Sanders was confident in both signal callers and what they bring to the table. Salter transferred in from Liberty and has plenty of experience and a solid stat line to boot. Lewis was much hyped as a prospect and notably chose Colorado over Lincoln Riley and USC, among others.

Sanders doesn’t see both of them playing, when asked that exact question Saturday. He didn’t exactly say no, but crafted his answer as more team oriented.

“I see us winning,” Sanders said. “I’m not looking that far down the line. I’m looking to have great practices by these two young men, and the cream of the crop is gonna rise. So it’s not an urgency that we got to name this and name that. Both these guys can play. I mean, I think we can play well with either one of them, but we want to put ourselves in the best position, totally.

“So it’s still going on. And don’t underestimate (Ryan) Staub and what he brings to the table and what he brings to the room, because he’s been in that room for the last couple of years because he’s seen some things that has had consistency in what we want to desire. And what he means to that room is phenomenal, just being that older guy, that veteran that understands how we want things with these two new guys. So he’s a tremendous asset to that room as well.”

Sanders isn’t the only one saying this about Salter and Lewis. Of course, Coach Prime gave a tip of the cap to Ryan Staub, who’s likely the third string in a crowded room.

But OC Pat Shurmur argued Salter and Lewis could both be the best players on the team. It’s high praise, but it just goes to show the confidence Colorado has in the position in 2025.

“We as coaches owe it to our fans, our team and everybody out there to play the very best players,” Shurmur said on Friday. “In reality, in terms of the quarterback, both guys could be our very best players. So then, we’ll have to work something out. In the meantime, we just keep working with them and those decisions will be made behind the scenes. Coach [Deion Sanders] will have to deal with all of that.”
