Lionel Messi gets good news as Inter Miami open 'talks' to sign World Cup winner

Inter Miami target World Cup winner as Lionel Messi receives promising transfer news.

Inter Miami are determined to stay ambitious, with the MLS side already eyeing a major move.

With a new stadium coming in 2026 and the future of Lionel Messi under discussion, the club is now focused on taking the next big step.

The Florida club now seems intent about bringing in players who match the vision Miami has been building since Messi arrived in July 2023, and now they are looking to plot a major move in this summer window.

Inter Miami have begun negotiations with Atletico Madrid to sign Argentina international and World Cup winner Rodrigo De Paul, as reported by Fabrizio Romano.

The midfielder, who has one year left on his deal, is being considered as a potential key signing to help Inter Miami remain competitive.

According to Romano, De Paul is open to the move, and the management of Miami consider him a player that can take the midfield to the next level.

While agreement hasn’t been finalized with negotiations still ongoing.

Mundo Deportivo reports that Atletico would listen to offers of around €20m [$23m] for De Paul as they feel extending his contract at age 31 is 'risky', although they are aware of how well he has played this past season, there would be internal acknowledgement of the offer.

De Paul’s arrival could shape Lionel Messi’s Miami future in more ways than one

De Paul is not just another name, but he’s one of Messi’s go-to players with duo playing a major part in Argentina’s World Cup-winning campaign in Qatar, where De Paul was praised for doing the gritty midfield work that allowed Messi the freedom to shine.

Both players share a great understanding off the field as well and that could be key to Inter Miami’s pursuit not only of De Paul but also of Messi.

According to ESPN , both Messi and the club are negotiating a contract extension beyond 2025.

Co-owner Jorge Mas recently said the club is doing “everything possible” to make Miami feel like home for the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner, and now with De Paul in the mix, that could be a lot easier.
