Ayton will wear No. 5.
Deandre Ayton is officially a Los Angeles Laker.
And now, Lakers fans know what number he'll be wearing.
Ayton has chosen No. 5 as his L.A. jersey number.
It's a choice with a bit of a checkered history for the Lakers.
Most recently, it has been worn in short stints by Cam Reddish, Malik Beasley, Talen Horton-Tucker, Tyson Chandler, Josh Hart, Jose Calderon and Carlos Boozer.
The most accomplished of its wearers in Los Angeles could be a good omen. Robert Horry rocked the digit as he hit some big postseason shots.
Ironically, current Rockets head coach Ime Udoka wore No. 5 for the Lakers.

Ayton couldn't be No. 22, which is what he wore in Phoenix. That was Elgin Baylor's number.
The big fella wore No. 2 in Portland, but that belongs to Jarred Vanderbilt currently with the Lakers.
So Ayton went with No. 5, and Lakers fans will hope he turns out a lot more like Horry than basically any of the others who have worn that digit.
