Asheville High receiver Kayden Ray is transferring to Reynolds. He caught 29 passes for 421 yards for the Cougars in 2024.
Asheville High senior wide receiver Kayden Ray has transferred to Reynolds before the start of the 2025 season, Reynolds coach Shane Laws confirmed to the Citizen Times in a text on Aug. 8.
Ray will be eligible to start the season, Laws said.
Ray entered the season as the Citizen Times' No. 5 wide receiver in Western North Carolina. He'll be paired alongside senior Tremaine Keeter, the preseason No. 6 wide receiver, who transferred from Asheville High to Reynolds before the 2024 season.
In 2024, Ray caught 29 passes for 421 yards and seven touchdowns in eight games as the Cougars' leading target.
Asheville High returns just two players who caught a pass last season — each with one reception. Ray's absence will be a blow to a young team, which includes sophomore quarterback Tay Williams.
Ray will catch passes from another transfer in quarterback Avery Hollifield, who arrived at Reynolds from Asheville Christian Academy in March.
