After a few weeks of relentless speculation, it is now official. Endrick is the new No. 9 at Real Madrid, succeeding Kylian Mbappe.
The 19-year-old striker has been at the club for only one year having arrived from Palmeiras last summer.
Endrick donned the No. 16 kit in his debut season at Real Madrid, during which he scored seven goals and managed one assist.
With Mbappe taking over the #10 shirt after Luka Modric’s departure, the ‘9’ became vacant. While Endrick seemed the leading candidate at first, Gonzalo Garcia’s emergence at the FIFA Club World Cup created a debate.

Recent reports even suggested that the 21-year-old Spaniard would inherit the No. 9 from Mbappe. However, it has now been confirmed that Gonzalo, who signed a new contract with Real Madrid, will wear the No. 16.
Instead, Endrick has now been handed the iconic No. 9 shirt at Real Madrid. The Brazilian follows in the footsteps of some of the greatest to have played for the club such as his compatriot Ronaldo, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Karim Benzema, among others.
Having had to make do with limited minutes in his debut campaign, Endrick will hope to earn greater prominence in the team under Xabi Alonso. For now, he is focused on recovering from his injury.
