The Chicago Sky's losing streak ends at eight. This comes after the Tyler Marsh-coached team beat the Washington Mystics in their showdown at Wintrust Arena on Tuesday night.

Chicago used a 25-10 first quarter to get things going, and they never looked back to secure their first victory in nearly a month. Prior to the victory, the Sky last won on July 12 against the Minnesota Lynx, just a few days before the All-Star break.

Coach Tyler Marsh Gets Real on Sky Putting an End to Ugly Run

With Angel Reese still out due to a back injury, Marsh made a change to his starting lineup and put Elizabeth Williams back as a starter in place of Rebecca Allen.

That move proved to be huge, with Williams leading the way with a monster double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds. She shot 7-of-11 from the field.

Three others scored in double figures, with Kamilla Cardoso chipping in 16 points along with 13 rebounds. Ariel Atkins, who returned from a seven-game absence due to a leg injury, added 15 points on 7-of-10 shooting.

Washington tried to fight back in the second quarter and cut Chicago's lead down to seven at halftime. However, they simply couldn't overcome the deep hole they dug. The Sky led by as many as 19 points in the contest and eventually closed it out with a 78-64 win.

After the game, Coach Marsh couldn't help but express relief that the frustrating skid has finally come to an end. He also went into detail on how the Sky managed to beat a Mystics team that is in contention for a playoff spot.

"Relief for sure," Marsh said after the game, per reporter Karli Bell. "Resiliency was the messaging. Not letting one possession derail the next. Coming out of it, I thought we did a really good job of handling the few runs Washington had."

What Does the Win Mean for the Sky?

Considering how much the Sky have struggled this 2025, it's only natural for Marsh to express his relief. It's a morale booster as well, especially for a team hoping to make a good run with just a few games remaining in the regular season.

Despite the victory, however, the Sky are still in a perilous situation. They improved to 8-21 and moved to 11th (above the Dallas Wings) in the standings, but they remain far from playoff contention.

Chicago still has less than a 1% chance to clinch a playoff spot, as they are six and a half games behind the No. 8 seed Golden State Valkyries.
