The Rockets gave the Grizzlies draft rights to Jahmai Mashack on draft night. However, the Rockets ended up sending that pick to the Warriors as part of a seven team trade, after lots of confusion, the Warriors finally followed through giving the Grizzlies Mashack's draft rights.
Tennessee’s Jahmai Mashack heard his name called as the final pick of the NBA Draft. Originally selected by the Rockets, Mashack’s draft rights were later traded to the Memphis Grizzlies. He was thrilled to become a Grizzly, as his defensive mindset and “dog mentality” align perfectly with what the team is looking for.
“It's something that I've always done. It's not something that a coach asked me to do and I decided to buy into that. It's something that I've been doing since I was 12, 13, 14 years old when I told my dad that I want to become a great basketball player. He sat me down and he told me, it's not going to be through making the most points or having the flashiest passes or looking at highlights, it's going to be being the hardest working dog that you can be. I've embraced that ever since I was in high school and college and I don't plan on doing nothing different now,” Mashack said.
However, confusion arose on Sunday when a complex seven-team NBA trade sent Mashack’s draft rights to the Golden State Warriors.
“This doesn’t mean Mashack is necessarily headed out to San Francisco, though. His mother, Meika Mashack, clarified that the plan is still for the trade to go through to keep him in the Volunteer State with Memphis. He just needs to wait for the initial draft night trade to go through, now in the hands of the Warriors,” Rocky Top Insider’s Ryan Sylvia wrote.
Mashack’s mother expressed how confusing the process had been but remained confident the draft-night trade would ultimately be completed. Finally, on Sunday evening, the Grizzlies officially announced they had acquired Mashack’s draft rights from the Warriors.

It appears Mashack will be staying in Tennessee a while longer. He’s now set to make his debut in Memphis’ Summer League game on Monday. This will be his first time taking the court with the team, as he hadn’t been allowed to participate until the trade was finalized.
