Andrew Vaughn was acquired by the Brewers last month

The Milwaukee Brewers have been hit by the injury bug so much already this year and just when it seemed they were getting closer to full strength, another injury strikes.

Rhys Hoskins suffered a Grade 2 sprain of his left thumb in Saturday's game against the Miami Marlins. As a result, he will be placed on the 10 day IL before Monday's game against the Dodgers.

In order to fill the void at first base with Hoskins on the shelf, reports have confirmed that the Brewers will call up Andrew Vaughn from Triple-A Nashville. Vaughn was acquired from the Chicago White Sox back in June in exchange for the disgruntled Aaron Civale.

Brewers call up Andrew Vaughn

Vaughn, the 3rd overall pick in the 2019 MLB Draft, had a couple of decent seasons with the White Sox in his five year MLB career. But he struggled mightily to begin 2025 and was optioned to Triple-A. A change of scenery candidate, the Sox and Brewers swapped Vaughn and Civale, who both needed new places to play.

Since coming over, Vaughn has been doing quite well in Triple-A Nashville, hitting .259 with three home runs and an .838 OPS in 16 games.

The Brewers must have gotten the results of Rhys Hoskins' MRI right around the time the Nashville Sounds game started on Sunday. Vaughn was the DH and batting third for the Sounds but was pinch-hit for in the top of the first inning. So the call had to have come pretty shortly after the Sounds brought the lineup card out to the umpire.

Vaughn is a right-handed power bat with 77 career MLB home runs under his belt. He fills the exact same mold that Hoskins has in the heart of the Brewers lineup.

It's unclear just how much playing time Vaughn will get with the Brewers. There could be more of a straight platoon with Jake Bauers at first base, with Bauers getting the bulk of the playing time as the left handed hitter. Milwaukee will want to give Vaughn some opportunities though as he has been a successful big league hitter in the past and he's been on a hot streak in Triple-A since coming over.
