Marcus Freeman gets a shocking flip of commitment!
The Texas Longhorns had big hopes for the holiday recruiting weekend. Instead, they walked away with mixed results, including a painful blow that felt more personal than strategic.
The high point came with the commitment of John Turntine III, a top-tier offensive lineman ranked No. 2 at his position and a top-10 prospect in Texas. His pledge gave the Longhorns their sixth top-100 recruit and a solid boost in the trenches.

But the day took a tough turn quickly.
Who is he?
First came the surprise flip of Felix Ojo, the top-ranked offensive tackle in the country. Expected to join Texas, he instead chose Texas Tech after reportedly landing a deal worth up to $5.1 million. That last-minute Red Raiders offer sent shockwaves through recruiting circles and left Texas scrambling.
The real gut punch, though, came when Kaydon Finley, son of Texas legend Jermichael Finley, chose Notre Dame. Finley, a standout receiver from Aledo, teased the crowd during his commitment by lifting the Texas hat from the table, pausing, then tossing it to the floor. He picked up a Notre Dame cap instead, announcing his plans to join Marcus Freeman’s rising program.
It was a bold gesture, and the message was clear.
Notre Dame's class now ranks third nationally and has gained momentum by landing multiple recruits from Texas, including four-star running back Javian Osborne, another target once favored to head to Austin.
Still, the Longhorns may find comfort in their recent haul of elite receivers. Last cycle, they landed two five-star pass-catchers in Jaime Ffrench and Kaliq Lockett, along with Michael Terry III, the nation’s top athlete. That group may ease the sting of losing Finley, even if the family ties make it harder to swallow.
Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian has built consistent top-10 classes, and one high-profile miss isn’t likely to derail the broader picture. But losing a legacy player to a northern rival adds a dramatic twist to a recruiting cycle that had promised something very different just hours earlier.
