Carlos Correa was the biggest name included in the Minnesota Twins’ trade deadline fire sale last week, after being dealt back to the Houston Astros. Houston absorbed $70 million of the remaining $103 million on Correa’s contract, which runs through 2028.
With Minnesota’s season spiraling, the front office shifted focus toward restocking the farm system, and Correa agreed to waive his no-trade clause to return to Houston, who currently sit atop the AL West and are pushing for another deep postseason run.
The 30-year-old veteran also agreed to an immediate position change, moving to third base upon arrival, as the Astros already have All-Star and 2022 World Series MVP Jeremy Pena locked in at shortstop.
Correa’s 2025 campaign has been slightly underwhelming following his All-Star season in 2024, batting .266 with a .708 OPS and eight home runs across 96 games.

Carlos Correa’s Astros Legacy
Correa spent seven seasons with the Astros after being selected first overall in the 2012 MLB Draft. He debuted in 2015 and immediately made an impact, winning Rookie of the Year at age 20.
He earned two All-Star selections and a Gold Glove during his tenure and was a key contributor to Houston’s postseason success, appearing in six playoff runs. In 79 career postseason games with the Astros, Correa has a .272 batting average with 82 hits, 18 home runs, 59 RBIs, and 37 runs scored. He played a pivotal role in the team’s 2017 World Series title—the first in franchise history.
Correa initially left Houston after the 2021 season when the two sides failed to reach agreement on a long-term extension. He wanted a lucrative deal, but the Astros were reportedly hesitant to commit to the financial terms he desired.
