After falling short offensively in 2024, Kalen DeBoer is looking for a better unit this season. Ty Simpson is the unofficial starting quarterback, technically still competing for the job. Alabama returns a lot of other pieces around him as the search for improvement starts on Aug. 30.

No better way to get a gauge of how things are going than getting the opinion of somebody facing them every single day. LT Overton has been thoroughly impressed with how Alabama has improved over the course of the offseason. Overton believes a pro-style offense is coming, similar to what you might see in the NFL.

“I’ve been seeing tremendous growth,” Overton said. “I know I’m a defensive lineman but not just on the o-line. The wide outs, the running backs. I’ve seen calls, shifts. Everybody is coming together as one on the offensive unit. Even some crazy stuff that I’ve never seen. When they talk about NFL pro-style offense, that’s what you’re going to see this year.”

Fans in Tuscaloosa might start to think about what DeBoer did with Washington in 2023. Not only did the Huskies have on-field success but a high number of their offensive guys heard their names called in the 2024 NFL Draft. Michael Penix Jr. and Rome Odunze led from the front but in total, seven different Washington players — from the offense — got selected. Positions varied as well, getting five total in there.

Whether or not Alabama has the same kind of success in April 2026, we will have to wait and see. However, Overton appears confident the scheme is going to be right up there. Mixing scheme and talent, add in the chemistry Overton described, and a special group could be on the way.

Simpson will be surrounded by a great receiving corps, headlined by Ryan Williams. Germie Bernard, someone who was on the 2023 Washington team, slots in as WR2. Isaiah Horton is the other big name, somebody Alabama got this offseason from Miami.

Third-year starter Kadyn Proctor will lead the offensive line, maybe a unit with some questions to answer early on. Jam Miller is certainly hoping they do, hoping to produce a more consistent rushing attack for Alabama. Overall, a deep running back room.

Everyone will find out quite quickly if Overton is correct. Aug. 30 brings a nonconference matchup against Florida State, projecting to be one of the better games of Week 1.
