The Indiana Fever won their fifth straight game on Sunday with a 78-74 victory over the Seattle Storm, but things have not been perfect.

Indiana is still without star point guard Caitlin Clark, who is out indefinitely with a right groin injury with "no timetable available" for her return.

All-Star guard Kelsey Mitchell is the team's leading scorer this season, averaging 19.9 points per game coming into Sunday, but she had her worst game of the season against Seattle.

Fever vs. Storm Game Recap: Indiana Wins Despite Mitchell's Struggles

Mitchell's performance marked her second second single-digit scoring outing of the week — the only two she such games in her impressive 2025 campaign. While foul trouble limited her against Phoenix, she was slightly more efficient than she was on Sunday.

  • Mitchell vs. Phoenix Mercury (Wednesday): 22 minutes, 8 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 0 turnovers, 3-for-10 FG, 1-for-3 3PT
  • Mitchell vs. Seattle Storm (Sunday): 30 minutes, 9 points, 2 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 turnovers, 3-for-16 FG, 0-for-8 3PT

Instead, it was forward Natasha Howard (21 points) and guard Sophie Cunningham (17 points, season high) who unexpectedly led the Fever in scoring against the Storm.

Indiana had to hold off a late surge from Nneka Ogwumike (16 points), Skylar Diggins (13 points) and the Storm. They did so in large part because of center Aliyah Boston scoring 10 of her 16 points in the fourth quarter.

Fever Staying Together at a Critical Time in the WNBA Season

After the game, Boston praised the entire team's effort and stated that Mitchell made a bigger impact than her stats suggested.

"When you have someone like Kelsey coming off pin downs, someone like Kelsey coming off ball screens, it opens up (for me),” she told ABC sideline reporter Holly Rowe.

Boston refused to take credit, stating that "everyone stepped up" in the team victory without Clark. She also gave Cunningham and Howard flowers for how they played.

When asked what the Fever have learned on their current road trip, Boston said, "We're resilient."

The win against Seattle was the second of four road games in seven days for Indiana. They already handled the Dallas Wings, and next up, they will travel to the Los Angeles Sparks on Tuesday and the Phoenix Mercury on Thursday.

The Storm and Mercury were the two teams on either side of the Fever entering Sunday's five-game slate across the league. Indiana could finish the day as high as fifth place in the WNBA standings, just 1.5 games behind the New York Liberty for second place.

Without Clark, everyone else has stepped up for head coach Stephanie White — no matter if it is Mitchell or someone else on a game-to-game basis. Thanks to the team effort, they will be in a much better spot in the playoff race when she returns.
