Matt Law was on the London is Blue podcast this week, where he talked about where Chelsea’s thinking was at on their sporting directors.

“They have received a barrel load of criticism over the past seven days,” Law said.

“That’s the nature of the game, some of it is deserved, some of it is over the top. Some of it is misguided, some of it is correct, it’s all in there. But it’s brutal. That’s what they signed up for… at a club like Chelsea, if things go wrong, that’s what happens.”

Chelsea more positive about sporting directors than fans

Fans are not happy with them, but according to Law, the club see things a little differently:

“The club don’t feel that all their decisions have been a disaster… [for example] the club would view Enzo Maresca’s appointment as a successful appointment.”

There’s no doubt that Maresca did well, taking his first Premier League job and getting the Blues into the Champions League at the first time of asking. But the fact is that he blew up and got himself sacked. To us, there was a failure on their part to find someone who was going to be able to work with them for more than 18 months.

In other news…

The Blues have been linked with a superb 16 year old talent who is breaking records in Norway.

Law outlined the three prime candidates for the Chelsea job, with all of them “confirmed” as on the club’s shortlist.
