Fever Star Sophie Cunningham Speaks Honestly About Life-Changing Decision

She's not ready yet.

Fever Star Sophie Cunningham Speaks Honestly About Life-Changing Decision originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

Sophie Cunningham is in the midst of the biggest year of her career thus far. The 28-year-old’s rise to fame since joining the Indiana Fever in the offseason has been phenomenal, and she has now firmly established herself as one of the most prominent names in the league.

Sophie Cunningham Launches Her Own Podcast

A testament to Cunningham becoming an absolute fan-favorite of late is the fact that she’s now started her own podcast. The first episode of “Show Me Something” dropped on Wednesday, and the show promises to stream new episodes weekly.

There were more than a few moments from the podcast that have made all sorts of waves online. This includes Cunningham doubling down on her hot take about the WNBA’s expansion plans, as well as the Fever guard’s unfiltered rant against referees.

Cunningham Opens Up About Motherhood

Another interesting subject centered around a major personal decision for Cunningham. At one point in the show, she and her co-host, TV star West Wilson, started talking about the fact that her sister is due to give birth soon.

When asked if she thought she was ready to be a mother herself at this point in her life, Cunningham answered plainly. “No,” she said.

Wilson followed up by asking if she feels like wanting to have her own kids whenever she gets to spend time with her sister’s children. Cunningham got brutally honest with her response.

"Oh, yeah,” she admitted. “Gives you baby fever, and then you spend like maybe 30 minutes of when they're not so good, and you're like, 'I'm good.' I'm thriving, actually.

“But yeah, I want to be a mom.”

Cunningham isn’t closing the door on this life-changing decision somewhere down the road. She is adamant, however, that now is not the time.

“The max mom that I am right now would be my dog,” she continued. “And a lot of my teammates have dogs, and I gave my dog to my parents back home because I just couldn't. I don't have time."

Is Cunningham Trending Down?

Cunningham has started six straight games for the Fever amid Caitlin Clark’s injury absence. The 6-foot-1 guard has been on a double-digit scoring run that extends to seven in the last nine games.

However, she has scored in single digits twice in the last three games. Her efficiency from beyond the arc has dipped to 20.0% over that stretch, compared to how she was knocking down 58.1% of her three-point attempts in the previous six games.

Be that as it may, Cunningham should continue to log heavy minutes for the Fever in the interim. Clark still has no timetable for her return, and Cunningham has proven to be a reliable option for head coach Stephanie White, be it as a starter or as part of the second unit.
