A familiar face in Lexington will return this fall for an official visit to Kentucky — one of six on the schedule for top-10 recruit Anthony Thompson.

The five-star wing out of Lebanon, Ohio will make the trip back to campus on September 24 to wrap up his visit tour, he tells KSR. He’ll also take officials to North Carolina, Ohio State, Michigan, Indiana and Texas, according to Joe Tipton of Rivals.

  • North Carolina: August 22nd
  • Ohio State: August 29th
  • Michigan September 5th
  • Indiana: September 12th
  • Texas: September 19th
  • Kentucky: September 24th

Thompson previously cut his list down to seven schools with Kentucky joining Indiana, Michigan, Purdue, Texas, North Carolina and Ohio State among finalists.

Thompson has taken two unofficial visits to Lexington, the first for Big Blue Madness last season on October 11, followed by another on January 4 for Kentucky’s SEC-opening victory vs. Florida. Mark Pope then visited the five-star wing in person on April 22.

He told KSR in July that he’s in regular contact with the Kentucky coaching staff, with the two sides talking “probably every week.”

“They’re a big-time program, one of the best programs ever,” Thompson said. “Their history of getting players in the league, a history of winning, that’s really important to me. And also player development, me just getting better as a player.”

The Wildcats like his versatility as a 6-8 wing capable of playing both inside and out while pushing to build his confidence as a shot-maker — taking on a Jaxson Robinson or Koby Brea role in Lexington.

“My shooting, I think that’s something that (Pope) really preaches on, is how I shoot the ball,” Thompson said of what he’s looking to improve. “I’m gonna try to continue to be well at that, be consistent with that. And then me playing consistently, that’s something that he just continues to want me to do, is continue to play the same way every game, from my scoring to my defense.”

When could a decision come? He told KSR’s Zack Geoghegan things could move quickly after visits wrap up, potentially as early as October or November.

Will it be Kentucky? The official visit in September will go a long way in deciding that for the Wildcats.
