While speaking with Athlon Sports and local media before his first rehab game with Double-A Springfield, St. Louis Cardinals right fielder Jordan Walker made a prediction on No. 1 prospect JJ Wetherholt's future.
"(Wetherholt's an) unreal player," Walker said of the young middle infielder. "From the video I've seen and what I've seen in spring training, he's the truth."
Walker commended multiple aspects of Wetherholt's game that he's seen, saying "I just love what I've seen from him. (He's got) confidence (and) that hit tool."
Knowing what it takes to make it to the big league level, Walker has no doubt in the former seventh overall pick's ability to excel for the Cardinals in the coming years.
"I think he's going to be an amazing player," he said.

Wetherholt, 22, is in the midst of a phenomenal year at the dish, leading the Texas League in on-base percentage (.429) while ranking in the top five in batting average (.302, 2nd), OPS (.876, 2nd), walk rate (16.2%, 2nd) and BB/K rate (1.075, 3rd). He leads the Springfield club in multiple additional categories including hits (65), doubles (14), walks (43) and stolen bases (13).
The up-and-coming minor league star was recently named to the National League Futures Game roster to represent the Cardinals organization during the All-Star Break.
After showing what he can do at the Double-A level during the first half of play this season, Wetherholt is certainly primed for a promotion as the organization heads towards the back stretch of the 2025 season.
