Real Madrid have had a very active summer transfer window to this point and have addressed most, if not all the lacunae that troubled the team last season.

Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dean Huijsen – two of the new defensive arrivals – even made their debut for the club and starred in the FIFA Club World Cup last month.

Meanwhile, two more players are yet to make their debuts for the club – Alvaro Carreras and Franco Mastantuono. The four new signings, in all, elevate the squad to a whole new level.

Done for the summer

As relayed by Tiempo de Juego in a recent report, Real Madrid now consider the squad complete and will thus not push for any more arrivals.

As Florentino Perez sees it, the centre-back, right-back, left-back and attacking midfield were four departments that needed new signings either for the short or long term and have all been adequately addressed.

The transfer window is thus closed for Real Madrid from an arrivals perspective for all practical purposes. There will be no more signings and Xabi Alonso must adapt to whatever players he currently has at his disposal.

From the new manager’s perspective, there is not much more he could have asked for to create a competitive spirit in the dressing room ahead of the new season.

It is, however, well known that Alonso wished for signings in defensive midfield and the centre-forward position, both of which did not come to fruition.

The new coach was hoping for a player like Rodri, Angelo Stiller or Martin Zubimendi to act as a deep-lying playmaker but will now have to make do with Aurelien Tchouameni.

Similarly, he wished for a low-cost backup natural number 9 but will have to go through his first season at the club without such a profile.
