Liverpool is no stranger to tragedy. Sadly, the club, the city and the world has been hit by another one.

Diogo Jota's and his brother's passing is a devastating tragedy, that is incomprehensible to so many. Jota was at the height of his career and at the height of his personal life, having just been married.

He leaves behind three children, a loving wife, two loving parents and hundreds of friends, family, colleagues and teammates who mourn his inconsolable loss.

Millions around the world are struggling to comprehend what has happened and are wracked with grief at his sudden passing.

That grief is felt more acutely in Merseyside - and at Anfield - the place Jota had called his home for close to five years during an indelible career at Liverpool.

The place where Jota became a fan favourite, a hero to so many young fans and a role model and an icon to look up to. Someone who delivered us memories that will live with us for a lifetime.

The club has stood strong, united in the face of this crisis. Supporters have expressed their grief and have left their tributes in their droves outside Anfield for a man who was adored by the club's fans.

The touching tributes have not just been from Liverpool fans but from all sorts of supporters who live in the city. Everton have come out to pay their respects - showing just how strong this unity is between the two rivals.

At times like this, football doesn't matter. All that matters is the lives that were lost, cut far too short.

It's touching that at a time like this the city stands united. Liverpool will always be there to remember Jota. He will never be forgotten.

The club will eternally honour his legacy and ensure he will be given the tributes and honours that he deserves. This will happen in due time but first everyone must be given the space to mourn their colleague and their teammate.

For those that knew Jota personally, this loss will be extremely difficult to bare.

His family will never be forgotten in Liverpool either. From his wife, to his children and parents, they should always be welcome at Anfield. When the time is right, Anfield will honour their loved ones in the right way.

Liverpool the city will welcome them with open arms. Their grief, the wound which will never really heal, will always have a safe space in the city.

Jota's tragedy is our tragedy. It's a loss that has sent the entire city, the entire club into grieving. A loss that none of us will ever be fully be able to comprehend.

But we all have each other. For support. For comfort. To somehow deal with this terrible tragedy.
