The biggest storyline over the past few weeks of the NBA offseason has been the continued saga between the Golden State Warriors and young forward Jonathan Kuminga.

Kuminga is currently a restricted free agent and after falling out of Steve Kerr’s rotation last season, he may be nearing an exit from Golden State.

Despite this, there has not been a ton of interest around the league surrounding Kuminga but two teams have reportedly emerged as potential suitors for him in a sign-and-trade, though it would be difficult for both teams to pull off a deal with the Warriors.

Those teams are the Sacramento Kings and Phoenix Suns, both of which have already had trade shut down by the Warriors regarding Kuminga.

On Friday, it was reported that the Warriors shut down another trade offer by the Kings for Kuminga due to a key reason.

According to The Athletic’s Sam Amick, the Kings reportedly offered Kuminga a three-year, $63 million contract in a potential sign-and-trade deal that would send Malik Monk and a 2030 lottery protected first-round pick to the Warriors.

Amick also reported that Golden State rejected Sacramento’s offer due to them wanting an unprotected first-round pick in return for Kuminga.

This is a massive report by Amick for two reasons as it is clear that the Warriors are searching for an unprotected first-round pick in a trade for Kuminga and also that they are open to adding Monk from the Kings in a potential trade.

Of course, it was reported earlier this offseason that the Warriors turned down the Kings’ offer of Devin Carter, Dario Saric and a protected first-round pick as they were instead targeting either Keegan Murray or Keon Ellis in a potential deal along with an unprotected first-round pick.

With Amick’s report on Friday, it appears as though the Warriors know that the Kings are not going to give up Murray or Ellis and they have opened the door to acquire Monk if Sacramento offer them an unprotected pick.

Because of this, it looks as though Golden State is slightly lowering their asking price for Kuminga as they try to settle the situation so that they can start upgrading their roster in free agency.
