Bayern Munich and Germany midfielder Aleksandar Pavlovic has suffered an eye socket fracture and is sidelined for the time being in a latest injury setback.

Bundesliga champions Bayern said on Saturday that Pavlovic suffered the injury in training the previous day and has undergone surgery. They did not say how long he is expected to be out of action.

Bayern start the season on August 16 with the German Super Cup match against domestic cup winners VfB Stuttgart. Their Bundesliga opener is six days later against RB Leipzig.

Pavlovic, 21, has been plagued by injuries and illness in his young career. Last season, he first missed several weeks with a collarbone fracture, and then had another spell on the sidelines due to glandular fever.
