Caitlin Clark's absence helps Indiana Fever.
Stephanie White Reveals Good News For Indiana Fever With Caitlin Clark Out originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Indiana Fever continue to find success under the leadership of head coach Stephanie White.
As the season has progressed, White has dealt with several lineup changes, much to do with injury woes.
Caitlin Clark has been the biggest name in the injury report this season. She’s played 13 games after dealing with various setbacks and Indiana has also worked through a long stretch without Sophie Cunningham, as she was dealing with a setback earlier in the season.
Nevertheless, White and the Fever have found a way to stay firmly in the playoff race.
On Wednesday, Indiana defeated the Phoenix Mercury 107-101.
After the game, White spoke with the media, where she explained that the loss of Clark has been virtually beneficial to the Fever since Indiana has built a strong core of role players, aiding their depth before the end of the season.
"We know we look very different without C [Caitlin Clark] on the floor but we're very difficult to scout when we have this type of balance," White said. "I think it makes us dangerous. Every single player on our roster has gained experience throughout the course of this season. When one player doesn't have it, another one does and steps up, and that's important."
The Fever were led by Aari McDonald in their win over the Mercury. McDonald was added to the roster during the season in an attempt to help the Indiana Fever's depth.
The 5-foot-6 guard finished the win over the Mercury with 27 points, the most she’s ever scored in her WNBA career. She also added four assists, serving as a facilitator in Stephanie White’s offense.
With Clark, who's widely regarded as the Fever's best player, being the only person out of the lineup, others have stepped up to the plate.
Aliyah Boston has taken on a larger role on the offensive end, while role players like Makayla Timpson and Sydney Colson have also made significant contributions on separate occasions.
