Indiana Fever Veteran Responds Perfectly After Playing 0 Minutes in Sky Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
When Indiana Fever head coach Stephanie White was asked about Damiris Dantas’ lack of playing time during Sunday’s 93-78 win over the Chicago Sky, the veteran coach implied that it was more of a situational decision as opposed to a predetermined plan.
Damiris Dantas Bounces Back
The Fever were back in action on Wednesday in a home game against the Phoenix Mercury, and Dantas came up big in her limited run off the bench. After logging zero minutes against Chicago, the 32-year-old center-forward scored 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting in Wednesday’s victory. Dantas also logged two triples, three rebounds and an assist in just 10 minutes of action.
Dantas quickly moved on from her benching against the Sky by bouncing back with a big performance in Wednesday’s game — and Fever supporters did not fail to take notice.
"That's the Damiris Dantas I know," a comment on X read.
"That's called quality minutes. What a dawg man!" another said.
"Fantastic game by Damiris tonight! Great defense, great scoring! That's the Dantas I know! ❤️," a supporter wrote.
"She said EFF that….im not losing my spot on this team & she turnt up !!!! 😂😂😂" a user posted.
"And ESPN wants to trade her for MHA😭" a reaction read.
"She had whispers of a trade and said hell no," said another.
ESPN Floats Dantas Trade Idea
As indicated in a couple of the reactions from the fans, there was some talk about a potential Dantas trade after the Sky game. According to an ESPN article, the Fever could explore the possibility of sending Dantas to the Dallas Wings in exchange for forward Myisha Hines-Allen.
The trade deadline for the WNBA is on August 7, and while there has been no indication from Indiana that it has any plans to offload Dantas, it’s not impossible. However, after her strong performance against the Mercury, the veteran proved that she is very much capable of providing a spark for the Fever when called upon.
