Sun's Marina Mabrey puts together masterpiece of stats in huge upset of Liberty

Marina was hooping.

Marina Mabrey put together one of the best nights of her WNBA career on Friday.

The Connecticut Sun star guard nearly had a triple-double in a massive upset win over the New York Liberty.

Mabrey's full stat line:

  • 18 points
  • 10 rebounds
  • 8 assists
  • 2 steals
  • 1 block

The Sun lost to the Liberty by 48 points earlier this season. But on this night, with the Liberty missing Breanna Stewart, Connecticut won by 16.

Mabrey took a lot of shots and was inefficient, just 6-for-19 from the floor. Her stat line, and the margin of victory, could've been even bigger.

The star out of Notre Dame missed time earlier this season with injury, but back on the floor, she looks healthy and ready to prove herself yet again as a WNBA standout performer.

This was Mabrey's fourth game back from injury. In the prior three, the Sun limited her minutes, and she had topped out at 15 points and four assists in one of those outings.

This night was a return to full throttle for Mabrey.

The Sun are well out of contention, and Mabrey is in trade talks. A recent ESPN prediction had her getting dealt to the Seattle Storm.

In her prime, Mabrey would certainly be a strong pickup for a contending team, especially if she keeps playing like this.

But it's not her job to care about trade conversations. It's Mabrey's job to hoop and win basketball games.

And on Friday night, against the Liberty and Sabrina Ionescu, Mabrey put on a show for the Sun, shining as brightly as she has all season.
