The clock is ticking on the Boston Red Sox trade deadline. With under 24 hours to upgrade their roster, the looming threat of trading outfielder Jarren Duran persists. Boston has already declined one of the San Diego Padres' offers. However, the rejection has not stopped the Padres from trying to convince Boston to relinquish Duran.

According to Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic, Jarren Duran is still squarely in the mix as the deadline gets closer, with the Padres continuing to be aggressive.

Conflicting reports have surfaced about the Padres’ initial offer, but rumors suggest the package included starting pitcher Dylan Cease and top prospect Ethan Salas. McCaffrey explains that the Red Sox would legitimately consider trading Duran if the Padres included number-one prospect infielder Leo De Vries instead of Salas in the deal.

Although it may sound like Boston is being greedy, Duran is a big reason for their 16-6 record in July. In 22 games, the left-handed hitter slashed .299/.400/.636 with four home runs and 17 RBIs. More notably, Duran hit eight doubles, three triples, and totaled a 1.036 OPS. With Duran helping to carry the Red Sox offense and under team control through the 2028 season, it is justifiable for chief baseball officer Craig Breslow to request a lucrative package in return.

McCaffrey ends by adding that if the Padres are unwilling to meet Boston’s demand, the Los Angeles Dodgers could also get into the mix.
