Sophie Cunningham Responds After Unexpected Offer From Lakers President Jeanie Buss originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham recently got an unexpected shoutout from Los Angeles Lakers team president Jeanie Buss, who co-owns the all-female wrestling promotion Women of Wrestling, or WOW.
According to Buss, Cunningham would be a great addition to the WOW roster, praising the Fever veteran for being “talented, dedicated and a fierce competitor.”
Sophie Cunningham Responds to WOW Invite
Cunningham has now addressed the open invitation from the billionaire businesswoman. While the 6-foot-1 guard has not directly stated that she’s going to be entering the wrestling ring soon, Cunningham did hint at the possibility of doing so.
According to Fever reporter Brian Haenchen of Indy Star, Cunningham said that she would “not not be interested” in potentially linking up with WOW once the WNBA season comes to an end.
Cunningham expressed how big a fan of professional wrestling she was growing up, revealing that she “religiously” followed the likes of Hulk Hogan, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Goldberg and Kane, whom Cunningham admitted she was “scared (to death)” of.
"The older I got, I didn't realize how staged it was,” Cunningham said, laughing. “I thought it was real when I was little like everyone does.
"But I think it's fun. Who knows (what the future holds)."
Cunningham hasn’t confirmed her decision to accept Buss’s offer, but she certainly hasn’t closed the door on the same.
Sophie Cunningham Ventures Into Podcasting
Cunningham marked a big move in her career off the court on Wednesday after she dropped the first episode of her new podcast entitled “Show Me Something.”
The 28-year-old excitedly discussed how she intends to drop her “unfiltered” takes on her new show to give the fans what they want.
"Nowadays you have to be so filtered and so careful about how you say things,” she said. “People want real. People want positive things to cling onto.
“It's going to talk about anything and everything. It's going to be somewhere for people to go and have a good laugh and relax. It's nothing serious and I think that fits my vibe."
Cunningham is hosting the podcast with good friend and TV star West Wilson, with new episodes streaming every Wednesday.
