Brewers' latest update on Jackson Chourio's hamstring injury doesn't sound optimistic

Jackson Chourio hit the injured list August 1 and could miss extended time, according to manager Pat Murphy.

WASHINGTON — The news on Jackson Chourio isn't getting any better.

Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy spoke about his star 21-year-old outfielder before his team's series opener at Nationals Park on August 1, where Chourio was notably absent as he landed on the 10-day injured list with a strained right hamstring.

Chourio's diagnosis is worse than it was first thought in the aftermath of what was described as a right hamstring spasm while legging out a triple against the Chicago Cubs on July 29.

"My leg is a touch tight, but I feel good," Chourio said after the game.

The Brewers' tone sounded quite different just a few days later in Washington.

"I don’t (know), but it won’t be anytime soon," he said. "It was diagnosed a little more severe than we initially thought but to what extent I’m not exactly sure. Nor are (the medical staff). We’re just going to have to rehab it."

Chourio received a PRP injection in Milwaukee in hopes of accelerating the healing in the muscle.

Murphy wasn't able to give a timeline for Chourio's return from Washington, but left open the possibility that it's an extended absence.

"Could be," Murphy responded when asked if it could be a monthlong absence.

More than a month?

"Could be."

Brandon Lockridge, the 28-year-old outfielder acquired from the San Diego Padres in the Nestor Cortes deal at the trade deadline July 31, was activated with Chourio hitting the injured list. Lockridge was starting in right field and batting leadoff for his first game with the team to open the series with the Nationals.
