Sophie Cunningham stands up for Fever star.

From the moment she set foot in the WNBA, Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark has led a surge in popularity for the league. However, those around the league are not always willing to tab her as the catalyst for the growth.

That's something Clark's teammate, Sophie Cunningham, reveals is asinine in the first episode of her podcast, "Show Me Something."

Sophie Cunningham Says Caitin Clark is the Face of the WNBA

When she asked co-host West Wilson, who starred in Season 8 of Bravo's "Summer House," what the outside perspective of the WNBA is, Wilson expressed that he doesn't necessarily understand why WNBA players bully Clark. A point that led to Cunningham going off on a tangent about how she can't stand when people denounce Clark as the face of the WNBA.

"It literally like pisses me off when people are like she's like not the face of the league," Cunningham said. "What? No there's really good well-known people in our league, I'm not discrediting them. We have a lot of bad-asses in our league. Like hell yeah to that I'm all for that. But when people try to argue she's not the face of our league, or if our league would be where we're at without her. You're dumb as (expletive). You're literally dumb as (expletive)."

Caitlin Clark's Impact on the WNBA

During Clark's rookie season in 2024, the WNBA racked up a record of over 54 million unique viewers. The league was also able to secure a monster 11-year media rights deal worth over $2 billion.

Even though she has been sidelined with a right groin injury, her popularity has allowed the league to grow so much that fans have even tuned in to watch the Fever without her. As announced by ESPN on Wednesday, Sunday's game between the Fever and Chicago Sky, which didn't feature Clark or Angel Reese, was still the sixth-most watched WNBA regular season game on ABC (1.5 million viewers).

When Will Caitlin Clark Return and Play Alongside Sophie Cunningham Again?

Clark is set to miss her fifth straight game on Wednesday as the Fever will be taking on the Phoenix Mercury. In terms of when she will return, that remains unclear.

After Wednesday's game, the Fever start a four-game road trip Friday against the Dallas Wings.
