Calls are growing louder for Tiger Woods to be named the next United States Ryder Cup captain.

Team USA have struggled in recent years, losing eight of the past 12 meetings with Europe. They haven’t managed a win on European soil since 1993.

Tiger Woods is now expected to take charge when the event returns to Europe in 2027 at Adare Manor in Ireland. He’s considered the leading candidate, with many believing he can help turn things around for Team USA.

Pundit Brandel Chamblee, never shy about sharing his opinion, has already spoken out about the possibility of Woods taking the job.

Woods has been linked with the captaincy ever since Team Europe picked up another win at Bethpage Black last year. There’s a feeling that his leadership could bring a new edge to Team USA.

But at 50, Woods already has plenty on his plate. Between family commitments and efforts to grow LIV Golf globally, adding Ryder Cup duties would be another major task.

Brandel Chamblee appeared on the Dan on Golf Show this week, where the conversation quickly shifted to whether Tiger Woods is the right pick for the next US Ryder Cup captain.

The question was put to Chamblee about whether now is the right moment for Woods to step into the role.

“I think the next captain should be Justin Leonard,” Chamblee replied.

“Tiger has got plenty of time to be the captain, and he should probably do it more than once.

“I think he’s too busy with the governance of the PGA Tour.”

“I think he probably wants to play a little on PGA Tour Champions. You know, he’s got bigger fish to fry right now than taking over the Ryder Cup.”

“And if you want a player like that who can relate to all these players because he played at every level imaginable, you’re not going to find a more qualified candidate than Justin Leonard.”

Is now the right time for Tiger Woods to take over as Ryder Cup Captain?

Tiger Woods is expected to be a US Ryder Cup captain at some point, but now may not be the right time. As Chamblee pointed out, 2027 feels a bit early for him to step into the role.

The 2029 event at Hazeltine might fit better into his schedule and responsibilities, making it a more natural time for him to take over.

But whenever Woods does become captain, he’s certain to bring fresh energy and clear direction. Few people in golf command the level of respect he does from players across the PGA Tour.

And you can bet that when he finally takes charge, he’ll be determined to lead Team USA back on track with a much-needed win over Europe.
