Jon Rahm steps in as LIV Golf players stranded by Middle East travel chaos

Several LIV Golf players found themselves unable to leave the Middle East after military strikes in the region led to widespread flight cancellations.

Many had been in Dubai ahead of the league’s upcoming tournament in Hong Kong. With airspace restrictions and airport closures in place, players were left scrambling for alternatives.

Jon Rahm arranged for a private jet to pick up the group, who had travelled overland from Dubai towards Oman to catch the flight. This allowed them to continue their journey to Hong Kong ahead of the event.

Those affected included Tom McKibbin, Caleb Surratt, Thomas Detry, Adrian Meronk, Anirban Lahiri, Lee Westwood, and Sam Horsfield.

Middle East conflict disrupts LIV Golf event travel plans

The disruption followed military strikes by the United States and Israel on Iran, which sparked a wider regional crisis. Flights were cancelled or restricted across the Middle East as tensions rose.

Players had been training in Dubai before the event. With regular flights unavailable, alternative routes were considered, and organisers also prepared reserve players in case the group couldn’t make it.

Rahm’s efforts ultimately ensured the stranded players were able to reach Hong Kong in time for the competition.
