Jets head coach Aaron Glenn provided some injury updates following Friday’s practice session…

Quinnen Williams dealing with calf issue

The Jets had an injury scare earlier this week, as Williams was forced to leave Thursday’s practice after injuring his calf.

The star DT was unable to get back back out there Friday, though Glenn said that is just precautionary.

Williams has gone through this type of injury before so he knows exactly how to operate, but the head coach still expects him to be sidelined for about one or two weeks.

“We have to make sure he goes through the process of getting healed, but he’ll be just fine,” Glenn said.

Coming off his third consecutive Pro Bowl campaign, the 27-year-old is expected to be a huge piece in the middle of Gang Green’s defense.

John Simpson working through back issue

Simpson was missing from Friday’s practice due to a back injury.

Glenn expects him to miss about a week or two as well.

The veteran offensive lineman is heading into his second year with the Jets.

He appeared in all 17 games and was a mainstay for an injury-plagued group last season.

Simpson is expected to slot right back in as a starter on the left-side, but with him sidelined the Jets opted to slide Joe Tippmann over to guard and Josh Myers in at center.

Braelon Allen returns to practice

A more positive update was that Allen was able to get back out there after missing the last two practices with knee soreness.

The young talent appears to have a leg up on the Jets' No. 2 running back spot.

Allen impressed with limited touches during his rookie campaign, and could see a bigger role this year.

New offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand featured both David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs out of the backfield last season in Detroit.

It sounds like they're planning to do the same with Allen and Breece Hall to begin the year.

Malachi Moore has oblique strain

Moore is dealing with an oblique injury, but Glenn expects him to be fine.

That’s certainly encouraging news for the rookie safety, who has already been earning some high praise from the head coach.

“Malachi is going to be a hell of a player in this league,” Glenn said earlier this week. “He’s gonna do some really great things for us moving forward.”

The 26-year-old landed with the Jets in the fourth round of this year’s draft.

He comes with plenty of experience, having played a significant role during his five years at Alabama.

With Andre Cisco and Tony Adams on the roster, Allen may not see too big of a role during his rookie campaign, but he could work himself into the mix before you know it.
