NBA pundit says Lakers should prioritize Dončić over aging LeBron James

The Los Angeles Lakers have a double-headed monster, and if it came down to it, who would they choose to keep?

Luka Doncic and LeBron James

The Los Angeles Lakers have two of the most talented players in the league, LeBron James and Luka Dončić.

When they acquired Dončić halfway through last season, the future looked bright. Now, it seems as if there are some issues with who should be priority No. 1.

If it comes down to it, Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley has an idea of who the franchise should keep, and it may shock you.

“James was going to have to hand over the baton at some point," Buckley said Wednesday. "He may have fared better in his fight with Father Time than anyone before him, but that doesn't change the fact that he will be 41 for the majority of next season.

L.A.'s post-LeBron roadmap looked a bit fuzzy at first, but the megadeal for Dončić changed everything. The Lakers have their new franchise face, a 26-year-old whose string of five consecutive All-NBA first-team selections was only snapped by availability issues.”

James will become an unrestricted free agent next season and possibly choose to leave the team himself.

If he does decide to work out a new contract with Los Angeles, they should be mindful of his age, because even the king can’t outlast Father Time.

Dončić is fourteen years younger than James, which will absolutely come into consideration when the Lakers decide between the two.

He has proven his excellence by averaging 28.6 points per game throughout his career thus far, surpassing James.

For the first time in his career, the King has looked expendable. Dončić may be the first LeBron teammate to hold more value than him, and this could lead to James becoming a second priority.
