Ramon Urias traded to the Houston Astros on Wednesday

Houston gets an infielder from Baltimore.

The Houston Astros traded for 31-year-old infielder Ramon Urias on Wednesday night.

Urias played 77 games this season with the Baltimore Orioles and was hitting .248 on the season. He has eight home runs and has driven in 34 runs. The right-hander from Sonora, Mexico, was four-for-his last eight before being traded.

He was brought up to MLB in August of 2020. Known mostly as a third baseman, he can play all four infield positions and is noted for his strong defensive ability. Before his time in Major League Baseball, Urias played for the Diablos Rojos del Mexico of the Mexican League. He played there from 2013-17, and slashed .340/.433/.577 with 19 home runs in 106 games.

Houston is 62-47 on the season, and leading the American League West over the Seattle Mariners by 4.5 games. The Astros finished a home series against the Washington Nationals and will now head to Boston to take on the Red Sox over the weekend.

It has been a frustrating season for Baltimore. They are in last in the American League East with a 50-59 mark. They start Thursday, 13.5 games behind the first-place Toronto Blue Jays. Without Urias, the Orioles will head to Chicago and start a weekend series at the Chicago Cubs.

The Orioles are receiving Class A pitcher Twine Palmer.
