Mets-Rockies trade proposal would reload bullpen for stretch run

The New York Mets came into the season with World Series aspirations. They could be looking to add reinforcements to their bullpen in the coming days to gear up for a deep run.

The Mets bullpen has a 3.82 ERA on the season, which is the 10th best in baseball. They have other, more pressing needs at the trade deadline, but adding good relievers is never a bd idea. Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter proposed this trade that would bring two relievers from the Colorado Rockies to Queens:

  • Mets receive: Jake Bird and Jimmy Herget
  • Rockies receive: Blade Tidwell and Dylan Ross

"This might not look like the most exciting trade package at first glance, but adding Bird (45 G, 10 HLD, 4.73 ERA (3.45 FIP), 10.5 K/9) and Herget (37 G, 2 HLD, 2.80 ERA (3.88 FIP), 7.2 K/9) would give the Mets one of the deepest bullpens in the National League," wrote Reuter. "With the rotation back to full strength and Ronny Mauricio swinging at hot bat at third base, the bullpen looks like the most likely area of focus."

The Mets are reportedly interested in adding an outfielder, but Bird and Herget could play a huge role for the team. Bird's overall numbers are not the best, but he has great stuff on the mound. Herget is having one of the best years of his career.

Both players are under club control for multiple seasons. Herget is under control through 2027 and Bird through 2028. Tidwell and Ross are both Top 30 prospects, but that's the price to pay for two controllable big league arms.
