Two Dodgers were honored as being among the top 10 hitters in Major League Baseball, with one of them taking the top spot in a ranking released Tuesday.
As detailed by Fox Sports, newly acquired outfielder Kyle Tucker slotted in at 10th in their list, while two-way star Shohei Ohtani took the top overall spot over the New York Yankees’ Aaron Judge.
Last year with the Chicago Cubs, Tucker hit .273 with 22 home runs and 73 RBIs. He also recorded 91 runs and 25 stolen bases.
During the regular season of the Dodgers’ defense of their World Series title, Ohtani hit .282 with 55 home runs and 102 RBIs, adding 146 runs and 20 stolen bases.
In the playoffs, Ohtani continued to make an impact at the plate, adding eight home runs — including three in one game, during which he also threw 10 strikeouts from the mound — 14 RBIs and 13 runs.
Gearing Up for Title Defense
The Dodgers are seeking to become the first team to three-peat since the Yankees of the 1998 to 2000, and they have a talented roster with enough firepower at the plate and on the mound to make a run at history.
In addition to the two-way dominance of Ohtani and the fresh addition of Tucker, the Boys in Blue are returning experienced hitters like Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman, as well as strong pitchers like Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Blake Snell.
The bullpen has also been strengthened with the addition of star closer Edwin Diaz.
Despite the big-ticket acquisitions, the Dodgers will have some gaps to fill. Not only did future Hall of Fame pitcher Clayton Kershaw retire at the end of the season, but fan-favorite utility player Kike Hernandez is a free agent and has not yet committed to returning to the team.
When asked by a fan recently, Hernandez simply shrugged.
Another fan favorite, lefty reliever Anthony Banda, was also recently waived by the Dodgers.
