The Los Angeles Dodgers' offense is scuffling. Since July 1st, Los Angeles has scored the seventh-fewest runs in the league and the fourth-lowest batting average. As a result, the team is under .500 since the All-Star break and has an 8-13 record in the last month. As the offense works through a mid-season slump, the MLB trade deadline offers Los Angeles an opportunity to acquire a sparkplug and turn their fortunes around.

While the Dodgers can rely on their plethora of stars to snap out of the cold spell, they are actively pursuing an outfield upgrade to replace Michael Conforto in left field.

As a collective, the Dodgers have one of the worst left fields in baseball with their negative 0.6 WAR. Conforto is a primary reason for the low ranking. Through 90 games, the left-handed hitter is slashing .186/.296/.323 with just eight home runs and 23 RBIs. His poor performance gives the Dodgers every reason to look for a replacement, and the team has set its sights on a deadline target.

According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Dodgers have expressed interest in Minnesota Twins outfielder Harrison Bader.

Bader, 31, is having his best season since 2021. In 96 games, the veteran has a .250 batting average, 12 home runs, and 38 RBIs. Bader’s power stroke in an important detail as his home run total not only passes Conforto, but ties his 2024 amount. The former gold glover can also provide the Dodgers more versatility, being able to play in each outfield position. Speed is another element that Bader possesses with double-digit stolen bases in each of the last three seasons.

Los Angeles and Minnesota should be able to come to terms on an agreement fairly easily, as the Twins attempt to dump the remains of Bader’s $6.25 million salary, and the Dodgers have plenty of prospects to trade.
